The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is one of America’s leading historic, cultural and educational institutions. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a national historic landmark, has welcomed more than 10 million visitors and currently welcomes almost one million visitors annually. The Intrepid Museum is looking for a Part Time Accountant to assist with the daily functions of the Finance Department. Tasks will include working with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and account analysis.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with issuance of purchase orders
- Assist with organization of admission vouchers
- Reconcile receivable statements
- Prepare detail schedule of contributions
- Reconcile revenue with development department
- Track corporate card purchases – obtain all necessary documentation
- Update asset detail in fixed asset system
- Verify that all assets are properly tagged
- Prepare Journal entries in MAS 500
- Other reconciliations as needed
- Other duties as required by management
Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong proficiency in Microsoft office including proficiency with word processing, database, and mastery of spreadsheet software is required. Knowledge of MAS 500 is required. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to multi task effectively. An ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public is required. The ideal candidate must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. An ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists is required is needed. An ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is also needed. Candidates need to be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
