| The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.
We are seeking Part-Time Tour Guides to inform and educate our visitors about the aircraft carrier Intrepid, submarine Growler, space shuttle Enterprise, British Airways Concorde, other aircraft and related artifacts in our collection. Deliver a high level of customer service satisfaction through comprehensive product knowledge including Museum lay-out, options, services available, exhibits, attractions, special events, web-site, other NYC attractions, transportation options and efficient responses to all guest inquiries.
This is a part-time position with weekends, holidays and some evenings required.
Essential Departmental Responsibilities:
MUSEUM / ATTRACTION EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or six months or more of related tour guide/ customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent customer service skills, because this position involves constant interaction with visitors, experience working face-to-face with the public is a plus. Ability to learn and retain extensive amount of information necessary. Computer proficiency with the ability to create spreadsheets and operate information components preferred. Pre-existing knowledge of military/aviation/space/naval history and technology is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Greet visitors and provide detailed information about specific exhibits, artifacts, historical information and functions.
- Conduct in-depth, specialized walking tours of the Museum complex.
- Assist at the Information Desk, as assigned, by promoting the Museum and its services, acting as general liaison between the museum and public in person and via telephone and email.
- Ability to offer directions to other NYC destinations, mass transit options, restaurants or other food service options to guests who inquire.
- Performs other duties as required by management.
