Camp G.O.A.L.S.

The Camp G.O.A.L.S. for Girls is a FREE 6-week summer program that for underserved female students currently attending a New York City school in 8th or 9th grade. The program runs five days a week for six weeks from July 15th, 2013 to August 23rd, 2013 with a scheduled overnight aboard the Intrepid on August 23rd, 2013. A commitment to attend Camp G.O.A.L.S. each day is required by all applicants. The daily hours of Camp are usually from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The Intrepid Museum is seeking a diverse group of female students who will be entering the 9th or 10th grade in fall 2013 from several schools throughout New York City to participate in this summer’s Camp G.O.A.L.S. for girls. This is not your typical summer camp. We provide a strong academic curriculum to include team-building activities, cultivate leadership skillsets and develop life-long learners. We expect campers to be open to the various learning and teaching styles, while being respectful, willing to participate and cultivate positive skills as a confident leader among and outside her peers.

Space is limited to 50 campers and applications are due by Friday March 15th. In April 2013, Intrepid’s Museum Education team will invite a select group of students to be interviewed aboard the Intrepid Museum. We will notify the parents of such potential campers via e-mail and phone as to the date and time of the interview session. All final decisions will be made based on their student application, interview, and teacher recommendation(s) by May 2013.

The accepted young ladies will join us at the Intrepid Museum for six weeks to explore Aeronautics, Fashion and Science, Environmental Science and engineering, Marine Science, Medical Science and Space/Astronomy! The program is organized and run by the Intrepid Museum’s education department and includes engaging off-ship and on-ship activities and workshops, visits to our partnering NY science institutions and opportunities to meet with female scientists and community professionals.

Lunch/Snacks:
Each accepted camper will be provided with the opportunity to receive FREE camp lunches during on-ship activities and workshops, along with a snack.

Transportation:
Each chosen camper will receive FREE Metrocards for public transportation to and from the Intrepid and chosen fieldtrip sites during the 6-weeks of camp.
