All school workshops meet curriculum requirements and are geared towards individual grade levels for students in grades 3-12. For more information regarding specific workshop topics please contact schoolprograms@intrepidmuseum.org. All school programs can be modified upon advance request for special needs groups. Contact the Manager of Access Programs at access@intrepidmuseum.org for further assistance. 
 
WATER SCIENCE Grades 3-12:

Topics include: Water use onboard a Navy ship, Hudson River water quality, and testing and experiments with buoyancy. Scientific inquiry and experimentation are key components of these programs.
 
AVIATION SCIENCE Grades 3-12:

Topics include: Connections to the natural world, the four forces of flight, aircraft design, and aeronautics. Students work individually or in teams to demonstrate understanding of the parts of a plane and the mechanics of flight.
 
SPACE SCIENCE Grades 3-12:

Topics include: Living and working in space, the relationship between weight and mass in space, human space exploration, and discovery of the scale of the solar system. Includes a tour inside the Space Shuttle Pavilion.
 
HISTORY AND SOCIAL STUDIES Grades 3-12:

Topics include: Community life onboard a Navy ship, practice using primary artifacts and documents, Intrepid’s tie to events in World War II through the Vietnam War.
 
Classes receive pre-visit materials to prepare students for their visit and post-visit activities to reinforce concepts learned during the program. Materials are sent via email or can be mailed to the school upon request.

Access Programs
The Intrepid Museum is committed to providing interactive educational experiences to all visitors.  We offer programming for students and teachers in grades K-12th grade of varying abilities, including those with learning disabilities, hard of hearing, or limited mobility.  To speak to the Education Department about tailoring school programs to meet the needs of your students, please email us or call 646-381-5163.
