Power of One, Intrepid’s free eminent speaker series, is based on the notion that a specific moving and inspiring event in a young person’s life can start them on a path to positive change. In addition to being able to connect to students and their interests, the speakers are often tied to Intrepid’s historic missions during World War II, space exploration, and the Vietnam and Cold War. By hearing directly from prominent individuals who have confronted and overcome adversity, students are encouraged to live by the values of respect and responsibility. Power of One incorporates guided tours with Intrepid’s Educators and may include live video conferencing, performances, demonstrations and scientific experiments.
Intrepid has welcomed such speakers as Mercury Astronaut Scott Carpenter, filmmaker Spike Lee, Knicks legend John Starks, recording artist Shontelle, M.S. inflicted marathon runner and inspiring author Zoe Koplowitz, Olympic Athletes, survivor of the Rwandan Genocide Eugenie Mukeshimana, trailblazing tennis star Leslie Allen, scientists from Jet Propulsion Laboratory and many more!
