Ceremony- Blessing of the FDNY Marine Fleet
The NYC Fire Commissioner will join-in the formal ceremony which includes a laying of the wreath, blessing of the fleet, FDNY bagpipers performance, a spectacular colored water display by the FDNY and the procession of fireboats up the Hudson River. In addition, a special puppy naming ceremony in appreciation of the relationship between the FDNY and the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind/America’s VetDogs – The Veteran’s K-9 Corps. |

Stokes basket rescue demonstration & rope slides from Intrepid
Firefighters secure a victim into a specialized piece of equipment, the “Stokes basket”, which keeps the victim immobile while being lowered, via ropes, to the Intrepid pier.

Forcible Entry Door Demonstration
Firefighters put on their bunker gear and demonstrate the forcible entry simulator, a training tool which allows them to learn how to open both inward and outward-opening locked doorways. This skill saves valuable seconds in entering fire and emergency scenes. |

Bucket Ladder Rescue demonstration from Intrepid
Firefighters from a Ladder company rescue a victim from the flight deck by quickly raising the bucket ladder and plucking them from certain doom. The victim is placed inside the bucket for a safe return to the ground. |

Firefighter’s Personal Safety System (PSS) Demonstration
Personal Safety System is worn by firefighters and provides a rapid means of escape from a burning building, via the window. PSS consists of a rope, a hook, a carabiner, and a descender. The system allows safe and controlled exit to a lower level. |

“Jaws Of Life” Vehicle Extrication Demonstration & EMS Patient Treatment
Firefighters use the Hurst Tool, or, “Jaws of Life” , a powerful hydraulic tool that can cut through a car’s steel doors and roof, allowing rescuers to free a trapped victim. EMS members provide assessment and treatment of the freed victim. Once stabilized, the victim is placed on a stretcher and removed for transport. |

HazMat Unit contains Spill demonstration (weather permitting)
Members of the elite Hazardous Materials in the Special Operations Command put on special suits and breathing masks to investigate and contain a simulated toxic spill. |
