Lunch Time Talks 12:00pm

Mr. Lorenzo DuFau, former crewmember of the USS Mason
Our Lunch Time Talks series continues with our 3rd speaker Mr. Lorenzo DuFau, former crewmember of the USS Mason.

Lorenzo DuFau was a member of the predominant African-American crew of the USS Mason, the only surface ship of its kind in WWII.

The African-American crew of the USS Mason was chosen following pressure on President Roosevelt by the NAACP. The Mason's war record included its safe escort of convoys across the Atlantic and its exemplary service in the hunter-killer groups that finally destroyed the German U-Boats that had infested Allied waters. The USS Mason's story was depicted in the 2004 film Proud with actor Ossie Davis playing the role of Mr. DuFau. It was 50 years after the conclusion of WWII that the crew of the USS Mason finally received the commendations the convoy's commander had recommended.

Bring your own lunch! Talk begins at 12:00pm. $8 per person.
