Saturday saw more performances and demonstrations – and also featured our annual Military Tug of War.

The Coast Guard once again started us off with a demonstration in the Hudson River – this time of a ‘Vertical Insertion’ – an exciting exercise that involves dropping specially trained officers from a Coast Guard helicopter onto a ship via a ladder dropped from the helicopter.

Our annual Tug of War featured teams from the Navy, Army, and Marines as well as the FDNY and of course, Intrepid.  As a special treat, the Tug of War started off with the fun-filled ‘Mascot Pull’ – where mascots from the NY Mets, NJ Devils, NJ Nets, NY Liberty, Brooklyn Cyclones and the Fordham Rams competed.  For the main competition, FDNY took the top overall prize with the Marines winning top honors for the military.  Miss USA was on hand to offer support to all the teams and former NY Giants player Bart Oates awarded the prizes to the top teams.

Intrepid’s Main Stage was also hopping on Saturday with musical performances from the West Point Jazz Knights, The Northeast Navy Show Band and even a performance from the Broadway show Wicked.  And we closed the day with some good ole country music by the bands Babs Winn and Reckon So.

All the fun continues today so check our website for complete details.
