A group of Intrepid Former Crew Members had the distinguished honor of participating in the Memorial Service for media legend Walter Cronkite held on September 9 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.
The Former Crew Members presented Cronkite’s children with a microphone, modeled after the one Cronkite used on air, made from original Intrepid Flight Deck wood and an American Flag that flew on the ship at half-mast the day Cronkite passed away.
Among those in attendance were President Barack Obama, Former President Bill Clinton, CBS News' Katie Couric, NBC News' Tom Brokaw, musicians Jimmy Buffett, Mickey Hart and Wynton Marsalis and the U.S. Marine Band. |
