Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has rolled out the eighth installment in the video series chronicling space shuttle Enterprise’s historic journey to New York City.
“Part 8” takes space shuttle Enterprise fans behind the scenes at Intrepid Museum as Eric Boehm, Curator of Aviation and Aircraft Restoration and Matt Woods, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Maintenance, and Security discuss the critically important and logistically challenging hoist of space shuttle Enterprise to Intrepid’s Flight Deck.
The process to prepare the Museum for Enterprise’s arrival began in April when Boehm led a team in the removal and ultimate donation of three aircraft to Empire State Aerosciences Museum. Since then, Woods has ensured the sound structural engineering of the Intrepid’s Flight Deck and has given the “thumbs up” that the deck would support the space shuttle’s 150,000 pound load.
On Thursday, June 7, 2012 space shuttle Enterprise was successfully lifted by crane on to the flight deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Intrepid Museum will release additional footage leading up to the opening of the Space Shuttle Pavilion on July 19th, 2012. To view these behind the scenes videos, be sure to subscribe to Intrepid Museum’s YouTube channel, or visit: http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/Shuttle/Gallery.aspx
