World Science Festival at the Intrepid Museum Features a Screening of Gravity and More

Join the World Science Festival and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for space-themed activities and events this week, including a mobile exhibit from NASA and a screening of Gravity.

On Thursday, May 29 at 8:00pm, watch Gravity in the Museum’s Space Shuttle Pavilion, in the shadow of space shuttle Enterprise. After the film, hear from astronaut John Grunsfeld, a five-time shuttle veteran and the current Associate Administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, as he talks about the real challenges of space exploration and the everyday oddities of living and working in microgravity (separate ticket required; buy tickets through the World Science Festival website).

NASA is also on-site at the Intrepid Museum with its International Space Station Mobile. Let NASA tell you about science experiments happening far above the Earth’s surface and why they’re important for those of us down here. This exhibit, presented in collaboration with NASA’s Johnson Space Center, will be open on Pier 86 from May 28-30, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, daily (access may be limited when visiting school groups will be experiencing this exhibit).

Additionally on Thursday evening, Museum visitors can participate in an Astronomy Night or take advantage of after-hours access to the Exploreum Interactive Hall, open until 11:00pm. Astronomy Night, from 7:30pm to 11:30pm, takes place outdoors on Pier 86 and will feature talks from astronomers, scientists and Museum Educators. This event is free, but registration is required.

Also during the Museum’s Astronomy Night, get a taste of what it’s like to be an exoplanet hunter with NASA Jet Propulsion Lab’s interactive game, The Hidden Light. This installation will help you see what is invisible to the naked eye and is presented in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab.
