Educator Explorations

Teacher Professional Developments (half or full day)
The Intrepid Museum’s Education Department provides teachers with the opportunity to utilize the Intrepid Museum to complement the development of school curricula. Experienced educators will create a program with engaging, hands-on activities, cross-curricula content and pedagogy for a K-12 audience. Chosen themes and units capitalize on Intrepid’s rich history, and the museum complex which also includes the Cold War submarine Growler and the British Airways Concorde, the progression of technological and engineering advancements related to the ship and its aircraft collection, and its current location in the Hudson River Estuary. Teachers will gain background knowledge, resources, curriculum ideas, and classroom-ready activities. As a result they will increase their knowledge in aeronautics, marine science, space science, and/or history.

Teacher Institutes (3-5 days)
The Intrepid Museum’s Education Department provides institutes for teachers and educators on a range of topics including aviation, marine science, space science and history. Complete dynamic, hands-on experiences, “behind-the scenes” tours with curators, interactive discussions and one-on-one collaboration with colleagues, participants hone their overall teaching toolkits and realize the range of teaching resources the Intrepid offers. Teacher Institutes are adaptable to various themes and school curricula, and are appropriate for teachers of grades K-12.
