The USS Intrepid is an important part of America’s history at sea, in the air and in space. The Intrepid’s role in this history spans two major wars, the space program, and rescue and recovery efforts in the days following the attacks of September 11, 2001. Her stories are ultimately stories of technological innovation and human achievement under extraordinary circumstances.
When you visit the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, you will come to know the Intrepid as a machine. You will learn about the various aircraft that flew from her deck and the technologies that supported over 3,000 American lives while at sea.
You will also come to know the Intrepid as a community of people. You will learn about the crew, their lives as sailors, and the remarkable bonds they forged.
Together, the machines and the people who operated them define the full character of the aircraft carrier Intrepid.
