Here the opposing force was tracked and Intrepid’s forces deployed. Step into this previously classified space to experience “general quarters” from the heart of the battle group. Listen as the sounds of battle flood into the room over the “horn”.
Complete with radar scopes, wax plotter boards and communications equipment, the compartment was top secret and state-of-the-art for its day. The CIC has been fully restored and several of the adjacent areas are also open to public viewing. See what a radar room really looks like!
The CIC is accessible from the Island stairway on the starboard side of the Intrepid.
