The Control Room/Attack Center is located underneath the sail and is the primary area responsible for steering and command of the submarine.
The USS Growler has two periscopes. One is in its extended position and the other is stored (retracted) in its well. The periscope that is in its extended position is the attack periscope, and just as its name suggests, it is used to attack ships when conditions permit. If you look through this periscope you would be able to see that it has cross hairs just like the scope of a rifle. The other periscope is a general-purpose periscope. This periscope features binocular vision, which enabled the operator to see more detail. This particular periscope also featured night vision.
Just aft (rear) on the starboard side is the Sonar Room. Sonar was an integral part of the submarine because it allowed the submarine to “see” while underwater. It did this by intercepting and analyzing sounds present in the ocean.
