Our Education Department provides exciting, inspirational and hands-on programming for students, teachers and families that teach the history, science, and heroism behind the hardware of Intrepid. Space themed programs include historic content about the Intrepid’s role as a NASA prime recovery vessel, as well as the growth of space exploration present and future. Current and on-going workshops.

6th – 12th Grade Workshops: Combining a tour with hands-on activities, these 1 ½ hour programs explore the topic of space and promote close examination of the Museum’s collection, teamwork and honing critical thinking skills.

Weekend Demonstrations: Every Saturday and Sunday visitors join our Education Team for hands-on learning through artifacts at our Discovery Carts from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., and special demonstrations at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Free with Admission, demonstrations include space activities.

Leadership Events: Our eminent speakers program, Power of One, and full-day Youth Leadership Conferences for middle and high school students provide unique opportunities for students to meet and hear from dynamic individuals that can have indelible and permanent positive influences on their lives.

Camp Intrepid: Campers spend the summer aboard the Intrepid for our multi-week, full-day camp. This engaging enrichment program gives campers the opportunity to learn while having fun exploring, creating and experimenting by cooking with solar ovens and launching bottle rockets.

SOSI – Schools-Out-Ships-In: The Intrepid has a fun-filled solution for kids during school holidays and vacations throughout the year. Now, when School’s Out, the Ship’s In at SOSI, the Intrepid Museum’s unique full-day drop-off program giving kids the opportunity to explore, discover and learn about sea, air and space in a whole new way.
