Intrepid Museum Explores The Future of Space
On Tuesday, April 22 the Intrepid Museum hosted The Future of Space, an evening panel discussion, in a sold-out Lutnick Theater inside the Museum. Ira Flatow, the host of public radio’s Science Friday program, moderated a panel featuring NASA astronaut Mike Massimino; Bobak Ferdowsi, an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL); and Will Pomerantz, VP of special projects at Virgin Galactic.

In Remembrance: C. Gordon Fullerton, Former NASA Astronaut Who Piloted Enterprise
NASA has confirmed that former astronaut C. Gordon Fullerton passed away on August 21, 2013. Fullerton was a part of the NASA astronaut corps from September 1969 to November 1986, after a career as an Air Force test pilot, and was a member of the flight crews that piloted space shuttle Enterprise during the 1977 Approach and Landing Test program at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center.

Intrepid Museum Unveils Space Shuttle Enterprise LEGO Model
The Intrepid Museum unveiled a space shuttle Enterprise model made entirely out of LEGOs on Friday morning during the Museum’s SpaceFest, happening through Sunday, July 28.  The model of space shuttle Enterprise, created by LEGO Master Builder Ed Diment, will only be on display at the Museum during SpaceFest.

Space Shuttle Pavilion to reopen to the public on July 10
New York, NY (May 6, 2013) – The Space shuttle Pavilion, housing Space Shuttle Enterprise, the original NASA orbiter that paved the way for America’s successful space shuttle program, is scheduled to reopen to the public on Wednesday, July 10, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue), in Hudson River Park, in Manhattan.

Space Shuttle Enterprise Added to the National Register of Historic Places
NEW YORK, NY (March 22, 2013) – Space shuttle Enterprise, NASA’s original orbiter, now located at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places as of March 13, 2013, becoming the first orbiter to receive the distinction.

Intrepid’s new exhibition, Space Shuttle Enterprise: A Pioneer, includes photographs crowdsourced from the public to capture Enterprise’s journey from experimental orbiter in the 1970’s through to its remarkable trip to Intrepid in 2012. Did you snap a photo of Enterprise flying around DC or NYC on the back of a 747 in 2012? Maybe you photographed it in the 70’s.

Space Shuttle Update
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has started the process of constructing temporary scaffolding and a protective cover over Space Shuttle Enterprise, as it works to reopen the Space Shuttle Pavilion for Spring 2013. The process is expected to take 4-5 days. ...more

Space Shuttle Pavilion Now Open!

We are thrilled to announce the opening of Intrepid’s Space Shuttle Pavilion. Within the Pavilion, space shuttle Enterprise sits just 10 feet off the ground, allowing visitors to walk directly underneath this historic artifact, while an elevated viewing platform allows guests to gain even greater perspective.

Watch Space Shuttle Flyover at Intrepid on Friday, April 27
(Thursday, April 26, 2012) Come to Intrepid on Friday, April 27 to watch the historic flyover of Enterprise and the NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), the 747 bringing the space shuttle to New York City. In celebration, the museum and Pier 86 will open early at 8:30am.

Space Shuttle Flyover and Arrival Delayed until April 27
(Tuesday, April 24, 2012) NASA has tentatively rescheduled Enterprise’s flight to NYC for Friday, April 27. The flight was originally scheduled for April 23rd and then again on the 25th, but had to be postponed due to weather. As East Coast weather continues to change, check back here for future announcements should this date move again. Come to Intrepid on Friday, April 27 to watch the historic flyover of Enterprise and the NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), the 747 bringing the space shuttle to New York City.
