Membership Associate

As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.

We are seeking a passionate, organized and detail-oriented individual to join us full time as an Associate, Individual Giving and Member Relations. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Associate works closely with all divisions of the individual giving department to support museum-wide fundraising efforts.       

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implements household and library membership acquisition strategies, such as direct mail, email, box office, off-site, and digital sales
  • Manages all household and library member customer service touch points, which include telephone, email, and in person interactions
  • Implements strategies for stewarding and renewing current household members, acknowledges household and library membership gifts, and fulfills household and library membership benefits.
  • Collaborates with the Individual Giving team to identify and qualify household members for upgrade requests.
  • Manages the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) reciprocity relationships and communications and establishes reciprocity admission days with museums not in the ASTC program.
  • Supports membership events and attends institutional advancement events as requested.
  • Organizes and maintains the Membership department's collateral inventory.
  • Ensures that Visitor Services staff, group sales, and interpretation and engagement teams, among other departments, are kept informed about member events and promotions.
  • Assists in training incoming box office membership representatives.
  • Operates ticketing system as it relates to membership.
  • Works as a team member in the Institutional Advancement Department on a range of fundraising and development areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Individual Giving

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years of experience working in a development office setting. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive team member with strong written and verbal communication skills who is comfortable liaising with a range of individuals. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated professionalism and skills in time management and multi-tasking. Candidates should be proficient with computer systems, particularly with spreadsheets, email and calendars. Experience working with Tessitura or other fundraising CRM is beneficial, but not required.
