Seasonal Membership Sales Associate

As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is looking for a dynamic, proactive professional to join the Membership Team as a part-time membership sales associate during the busy summer season. Membership sales associates assist the Museum in increasing overall membership revenue and provide a high degree of customer service to Museum members and all visitors. Their goal is to create a positive experience that encourages return visitation and membership conversion.

Seasonal Membership Sales associates are knowledgeable about the Museum’s offerings and membership benefits. They convey information to guests while providing a warm welcome. The membership sales associates process memberships and assist as needed with administrative work, which may include sending mailings, helping with special events, and responding to phone and email inquiries from members.

Essential Departmental Responsibilities:

  • Generating and processing membership sales, and working with the Membership Team to meet daily, weekly and monthly goals
  • Explaining membership benefits and levels to Museum visitors to encourage membership sales
  • Providing the highest level of customer service to members, resolving general complaints from members on-site, and contacting the director of membership or museum services managers as necessary to resolve problems
  • Implementing on-site membership acquisition strategies
  • Processing memberships and member tickets using Tessitura
  • Upgrading and renewing current members
  • Communicating with the director of membership and the museum services managers to report on visitor satisfaction
  • Providing a warm welcome to guests as they enter the Museum
  • Directing Museum members to the express admission entrance and guiding guests to the appropriate line to ensure smooth flow of traffic
  • Informing guests of Museum layout, events, activities and exhibits
  • Clearly communicating the mission and message of the Intrepid Museum
  • Assisting the Membership Team with administrative tasks, including processing membership contributions, updating membership records, fulfilling membership benefits, sending renewal letters and other duties as assigned

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and will be proficient with computers. The ideal candidate will have customer service and sales experience and a passion for history, science or space. Previous museum experience and database or point-of-sale experience desirable.

The ability to work Museum Festivals and holidays, including the entire Memorial Day Weekend and Fourth of July Weekend, is required. Membership Sales Associates must be available to work at least one weekend day each week. Hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, 25–29 hours/week. Occasional evening hours are available.
