The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, one of New York City’s most original educational institutions, uses history and technology to inspire innovation and leadership. The Senior Grant Writer is a critical member of the fundraising team to support the Intrepid Museum’s dynamic range of programs that connect history with the sciences and the arts. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with exceptional grant-writing and relationship-building skills who is ready to move into an increasingly strategic role.

 Qualifications:

  • Build long-term relationships with current and prospective grant funders and create meaningful ways to engage with the work of the Intrepid Museum
  • Proactively research, build, and cultivate pipelines of prospective funders, matching their interests with the mission and strategic vision of the Intrepid Museum to support our highest priorities
  • Prepare well-written grant proposals and other correspondences under supervision of Director
  • Work collaboratively with staff to gather information and materials for proposals, funder updates, and grant reporting
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of funders for specific assigned projects
  • Create fundraising reports and other database reports as needed
  • Craft and track programming budgets for proposals and partner with the Finance team on financial reporting and reconciling on a regular basis
  • Organize and maintain accurate and current donor records, files, reports, and databases
  • Update and maintain monthly calendar of proposal deadlines and contract reporting requirements and assure timely submission of reports
  • Schedule calls and meetings with current and prospective funders as well as Museum staff to coordinate grant writing 
  • Attend selected Museum events to represent IA department
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualified Candidates must have BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university. Grant writing experience, with minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Development. Exceptional writing skills; the ability to edit persuasive letters and materials that compellingly communicate the mission of the Intrepid Museum. Proven track record of writing highly competitive proposals and securing funding. 
Strong time-management skills, highly organized and detail oriented, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced non-profit setting. Understanding of the record-keeping and stewardship systems that support a successful foundations relations program. Experience working with numbers and explaining and interpreting budgets and data analysis. Experience with and knowledge of computer operation; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs, etc.) Experience with Tessitura database a plus. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
