The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and other historic aircraft as well as a cold war era guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 1 million visitors annually since 2012. The mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.
The Museum seeks a part time Access Fellow to support a grant-funded project that will explore underrepresented stories in U.S. Navy service by drawing from the collections of museums across the United States. 
This is a part-time position for a term of one year, from January through December 2022.
Part time Access Fellow  (26,000 per yr – 20 hrs/wk @$25 per hr)
A Part Time Access Fellow is sought for supporting the development and delivery of materials and resources that make use of archival and object collections to engage students, families and adults with cognitive, sensory, physical, emotional and behavioral disabilities, primarily focusing on the expansion of the Museum’s accessible digital resource guide.  
This is a 1-year grant funded position (January 2022-December 2022). 
  • Ensure that the materials produced in this project are accessible for all potential users.
  • Adapt resources and lessons for diverse learners
  • Tasks may include:
    • Writing alt text
    • Writing visual descriptions
    • Creating learning supports
    • Adapting resources for learners with developmental, intellectual or learning disabilities
  • Assist with front-end evaluation of the sites for their target audiences 
  • Assist with user expert testing with audiences with disabilities
  • Bachelor's degree in education, history, museum studies or a related field. Master's and/or teacher certification, a certificate of training in special education or access a plus.
  • Related experience working with or developing materials for varied populations, particularly those with disabilities in an educational setting
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards and best practices
  • Strong communication and administrative skills
  • Understanding of object- and inquiry-based pedagogical practices 
  • Knowledge of best practices for English Language Learners and disability specific instructional strategies
  • Experience working with community advisers or user experts preferred
  • Multi-lingual or bi-lingual a plus
