As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join us as the full-time Education Coordinator to handle all scheduling for Education department programs, including K-12, teacher groups and afterschool programs, as well as associated staffing and room coordination. Reporting to the Project Manager for Education, the Education Coordinator works closely with all divisions of the department including School and Teacher Programs; Access Programs and Accessibility; Community Engagement and Family Programs; Out of School Time Programs; and Public Tours and Talks to facilitate office operations that support program delivery.       

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Keeping the education programs booking calendar updated and accurate.
  • Coordinating staffing of full-time and per diem staff, including overseeing the per diem educator weekly schedule.
  • Working with School & Teacher programs to ensure per diem program readiness is up to date.
  • Communicating with teachers and school administrators pre and post visit.
  • Coordinating registration for school programs including: generating invoices, tracking required forms and processing payment.
  • Tracking participant statistics in the Museum’s database software for evaluation purposes.
  • Providing support for school group arrival and orientation.
  • Performing other duties as required by management.


Qualified candidates will have a         Bachelor’s degree of Arts or Science. Deep knowledge in Excel software is required as well as confidence with other database software (Tessitura or similar). The ideal candidate will have familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi task effectively. This person will have an excellent phone manner and confidence in public speaking. He/She will be an enthusiastic team member with strong written and verbal communication skills, who is able to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments and with outside contacts. Candidates should have an interest in education and the Museum’s mission. Bilingual a plus.
