As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.

We are seeking an energetic and curious individual who, as a full time Museum Educator, will deliver education programming centering on the Museum’s mission while providing organizational support to the Out of School Time team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Out of School Time Programs in the Education Department, this position requires creativity, positive energy, empathy, strong presentation skills, the ability to function in a truly unique shared/collaborative workspace and highly developed organizational skills.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with department-wide weekday, weekend, and evening education programs, including workshops, classes, seminars, demonstrations and public programs for a variety of audiences.
  • Representing the Museum and its work at professional conferences and public fairs as appropriate.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across the Museum.
  • Other duties as required by management.

Special Projects Specific to this Position:
  • The delivery of interdisciplinary programs for participants in the Museum’s camp. afterschool and Youth Leadership programs.
  • Administrative assistance with the Museum’s CASA (Cultural Afterschool Adventures) programs, applications for the Museum’s two core Youth Leadership programs and with camp program paperwork.

Performs other duties as required by management.

Qualified candidates will have a BA or BS in Education, History, Science, Museum Studies or related field. Preferred candidates will have an MA. Candidates must have a minimum 1-2 years of experience delivering programs in museums or other educational venues and experience with program coordination or office administration. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team member with strong written and verbal communication skills who is able to work collaboratively with a large and diverse staff embodying a variety of working styles and skills sets. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated skills in prioritizing, organizing projects, multi-tasking, and employing systems that enhance maximum efficiency as well as a mature, flexible and professional demeanor both in presentation and actions. Ability to work evenings and weekends required. Bi/multi-lingual a plus.
