Archives Collections Intern

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.


Archives Internship - PAID Internship

The Collections Manager at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum seeks an intern for a part-time (2 days a week, 200 hours total) paid internship from May–August. The intern, reporting to the Collections Manager, will assist in processing the Museum’s archives into ArchivesSpace. If you are interested in archives work and naval history, this is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in a museum setting.

Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Creation and input of finding aids into ArchivesSpace database
  • Scanning and handling of archival documents and photographs
  • Data entry in The Museum System (TMS).
  • Performs other duties as assigned including internal research projects

Qualifications and Experience:
A recent college graduate or a current advanced degree student in a library science/archive or related program. Previous experience in archives processing as well as object handing and TMS desirable.

Compensation: $2,000 stipend
