The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and other historic aircraft as well as a cold war era guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 1 million visitors annually since 2012. The mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.

Intrepid Museum is looking for a full-time Accountant. The Accountant position assists with the daily accounting functions of the Finance department. Tasks will include, among other responsibilities, working with the Museum’s ticketing system to prepare attendance and admission reports and analysis, as well as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and account analysis. The position requires a solid understanding of accounting principles. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, diligent in delivering information timely, and be able to interact with all Museum staff to assist in achieving departmental goals and objectives. 
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with organization of admission vouchers and passes
  • Reconcile receivable statements with museum partners
  • Prepare invoices for various departments
  • Follow up with outstanding items on the AR Aging Report
  • Prepare journal entries in NetSuite financial system
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and enter bi-weekly payroll
  • Other duties as may be required
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Accounting from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a not-for-profit organization a plus. Exemplary computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Excellent problem solving skills: to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
