The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is an educational and cultural non-profit institution featuring the legendary former aircraft carrier and National Historic Landmark USS Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided-missile submarine. Since its opening in 1982, the Intrepid Museum has dedicated itself to a mission of promoting the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. The Museum proudly welcomes over one million visitors through its doors annually and remains one of the most popular attractions in the United States.

Reporting to the Controller, the Junior Accountant assists with the daily accounting functions of the Finance department.  Tasks will include working with the Museum’s ticketing system to prepare reports and analysis as well as accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger (GL) and account analysis. The position requires an understanding of accounting principles. The successful candidate must be detail oriented and diligent in delivering information timely and accurately.  He / she must be able to interact with team members throughout the organization to assist in making the Finance department more efficient and productive.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Reconcile daily box office transactions including partners vouchers and passes
  • Record daily admissions activity in accounting system
  • Prepare sales invoices and journal entries in NetSuite accounting system
  • Record check payments in NetSuite accounting system
  • Reconcile receivable statements with museum partners
  • Reconcile revenue with group sales and other revenue generating departments
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Other general ledger account reconciliations as needed
  • Other duties as may be required by management

 

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Exemplary computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet required.  Must have prior experience with detailed accounting system. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
