The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.

The Intrepid Museum is looking for a Senior Helpdesk Technician. This person will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, software, printers and some networking. This position also requires setting up and supporting various audio/visual equipment for meetings/presentations and Special Events. Daily duties and tasks will be assigned by the IT Manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical assistance and support for incoming helpdesk requests and issues related to computer systems, software, hardware printing and networking.
  • Run diagnostic programs, isolate problems and implement solutions.
  • Manage user accounts in Active directory and within Business applications
  • Management and resolution of Telephone and Voicemail issues, Avaya VoIP experience a plus. Training can be provided.
  • Management of wireless system, including access levels, SSID’s and security monitoring
  • Support various business applications including MS Office
  • Installs, upgrades and configures network printing, directory structures, rights, security, software and files
  • Running and terminating cables for network and phone system
  • Maintaining, tracking and documenting all hardware, software and A/V equipment
  • Perform network diagnosis, speed tests, cable testing and documentation
  • Assist in additional helpdesk tasks as required.
  • Escalate major issues to Senior members of staff and/or outside service personnel
  • Perform standard audio visual setups including projectors, sound systems and DVD players. Familiarity with Crestron and AMX control systems is helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to more complex audio visual tasks with on-site training
  • Experience with video conferencing units and technical concepts and troubleshooting
  • Available to work weekends, nights and holidays as required.
  • Perform other duties as required by management

The ideal candidate will be well versed in the following: General IT Experience in Support and Windows Desktop Environments, Command of Windows Server Environments, Exchange 2010, Networking, and Active Directory. Knowledge of server and live production environments required. Candidates should have the ability to manage and maintain high level professional wiring racks and Network Diagram drawing skills.

Employee will need to climb ladders and go onto man-lifts, forklift trucks or any other equipment required to service equipment and wiring throughout the varied locations across the Museum complex.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision. Employee must be able to pull cabling and all physical demands associated with this task. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

Qualified candidates will also have an ability to understand sensitive information and maintain confidentiality, have strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels of the organization from line workers to senior management level, have strong critical thinking skills, have complex problem solving skills, be highly organized and have an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
