The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.

This Senior Graphic Design position is a leading role in our creative group, working in a team setting with other designers, interns, and the Creative Director, helping bring the brand to life and ensure the brand's integrity through all creative initiatives. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, able to manage and mentor others, provide feedback and communicate clearly with institutional stakeholders

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execute ideas from concept to final creative
  • Communicate and facilitate the art direction and formatting of design deliverables and produce necessary communications pieces in print and digital environments for a wide range of internal and external clients. With the ability to concept, brainstorm and come up with unique ideas working off of limited content
  • Prepares illustrations, proof of concepts, mood boards or storyboards for various creative assets
  • Prepares final mechanicals to support production requirements
  • Works closely with multiple department stakeholders to obtain feedback and refine designs
  • Ensure that all collateral is brand-right with consistency and quality across print and digital media
  • Maintains image resource files
  • Be a go-to person and brand ambassador for driving brand consistency and execution across Intrepid Museum’s products
  • Develop flash and video media to be programmed on screens in and around the museum complex
  • Works closely with the Creative Director (or project lead) to create accurate time/price estimates and breakdowns while delivering solutions within budget
  • Work alongside other creative professionals to take responsibility for project’s creative ideation and strategy, client communication, and management of final creative deliverables
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure their vision is met while constantly improving on their ideas Maintains a positive work environment with high creative standards
  • Work on multiple creative solutions at a time, come up with your own ideas that will serve our internal client’s needs and oversee the production of the assignment
  • Performs other duties as required by management.

 

The ideal candidates should have Four-year related degree and a minimum of 5 years design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm. Ability to Articulate and present creative ideas. Proven ability to manage relationships and drive process in a team environment.  Self-starter, must be organized and able to act and follow through on projects independently. An unwavering eye for detail, typography and color. Ability to reprioritize projects and work flow based on business needs. Expert skill level in: Adobe Creative Suite, UX/UI Experience, Sketch, and motion graphic software, Microsoft Office Products. Desire knowledge in: HTML, JavaScript, Google Analytics, CMS, WordPress, Email Marketing. Photography/Photo Shoot experience a plus. Possess strong conceptual skills, high level sense of design, layout and typography, a broad thinker who is able to offer a variety of design solutions. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
