Manager of Operations
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is an educational and cultural non-profit institution featuring the legendary former aircraft carrier and National Historic Landmark USS Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided-missile submarine. Since its opening in 1982, the Intrepid Museum has dedicated itself to a mission of promoting the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. The Museum proudly welcomes over one million visitors through its doors annually and remains one of the most popular attractions in the United States.

We are seeking a Manager of Operations, who will perform activities including supervision of operations employee’s, installing, and repairing heating and air conditioning systems, general plumbing and mechanical.

Event Management Duties:

  • Reports directly and receives instructions from the Senior Vice President of Operations regarding daily maintenance operations and various projects throughout the facility.
  • Supervise a crew of 12 across all operations disciplines.
  • Purchase materials and plan inventory
  • Performs/ oversees routine and preventative maintenance tasks as directed by the SVP Operations.
  • Responds to emergency issues and troubleshoots problems.
  • Performs repairs on facilities various systems as necessary.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC systems, including vents, ducts, heating and air conditioning units, and other components of HVAC systems.
  • Participates as a member of the Museum firefighting team.
  • Maintains ship, pier and other Museum facilities, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Participates in marine operations, maintenance and transportation of vessels, barges, and aircraft including tank inspections, ship compartment inspections, line handling and aircraft movement.
  • Performs internal and external construction projects ensuring their completion according to specifications, schedules, budgets and contractual commitments.
  • Responds to all facility emergencies and assists other Operations personnel with timely, cost effective resolutions or temporary set-ups.
  • Assists in general technical, mechanical, and facilities maintenance duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Manage outside contractors and vendors.

Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and/or proven work experience as Operations Manager/Supervisor or similar role or equivalent training and education. Basic knowledge of maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all package, split, window, and dual temperature AC systems (including piping and electrical). Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance of absorption refrigeration equipment, pumps, air handling equipment and related electrical and control systems, heavy equipment operations, small engine repair. Welding, soldering, brazing experience a plus. Must have strong mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of building systems and equipment with ability to read construction plans, work orders and execute projects as directed. Experience budgeting and forecasting.  Leadership ability with outstanding organizational skills is required. Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary. Candidate must have a current Universal CFC license or ability to obtain.
