The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is an educational and cultural non-profit institution featuring the legendary former aircraft carrier and National Historic Landmark USS Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided-missile submarine. Since its opening in 1982, the Intrepid Museum has dedicated itself to a mission of promoting the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. The Museum proudly welcomes over one million visitors through its doors annually and remains one of the most popular attractions in the United States.

We are seeking a Manager of Venue Sales & Events who will plan and manage third party client events as well as generate event sales. Daily responsibilities are both administrative and operational.

  • Responsible for selling third party revenue-generating events including, but not limited to:  corporate events, nonprofit events, social events, photo shoots, film/TV shoots, press events, movie screenings, fitness events.
  • Understand the complex needs of different events and diverse clients.
  • Respond promptly to new inquiries.
  • Responsible for the life cycle of third party events:  create proposals, provide site visits with client, partake in client meetings, facilitate contract negotiation, produce production notes, communicate with vendors, upkeep calendar, facilitate the event set up/breakdown & follow up with client after the event. 
  • Issue contracts and invoices and collect payments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain business contacts within the events industry to generate new business and sales.
  • Meet or exceed quarterly and yearly sales revenue goals.
  • Direct and supervise workers in preparing spaces during special events load-in/set-up, event execution, and load-out/breakdown.
  • Build and generate sales by attending industry meetings and networking events
  • Determine and execute appropriate responses to problems and emergencies during events, handle customer complaints.

Perform other duties as required by management

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Attention to detail is a must. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Intermediate computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel) and with database software. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including phone skills. Demonstrated track record of high ethical character and work ethic. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary.
