A program that aims to stimulate the interest of middle school students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through free education programs held at STEM-rich cultural institutions in New York City and Westchester. The program will be held at the Intrepid Museum on select Wednesdays through May 2017.
“Thanks to Con Edison’s support, more than 1,000 public school students will be able to visit the Museum, explore a world-class collection of artifacts representing innovations in engineering and design, and have an active learning experience beyond anything possible in the classroom,” said Dr. Lynda Kennedy, the Museum’s vice president of education and evaluation.

During STEM Days Out, students will build skills in scientific inquiry, experimentation and the engineering design process. The Museum offers a number of programs to meet curriculum needs. Some programs focus on the space shuttle Enterprise and the engineering challenges of functioning in microgravity. Others focus on the Museum’s aircraft collection, exploring the forces of flight and the movement of aircraft. Environmental programs focus on corrosion and the preservation of the aircraft carrier Intrepid in a marine environment. All programs have an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the humanities and the arts.
Con Edison's STEM Days Out are offered at museums throughout the city. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum gratefully acknowledges Con Edison's continued support of its STEM education programs. For more information on Con Edison's efforts to enhance STEM education, click here.
