Join us in celebrating our bravest at the Intrepid Museum’s Pier 86 and enjoy a weekend of live demos, musical performances, interactive displays and more from the Fire Department of the City of New York!

Be sure to visit for your chance to meet firefighters of the FDNY 2015 Calendar of Heroes, who will be signing their pages of the calendar on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and personnel will receive free admission to the Intrepid Museum this weekend, including the Space Shuttle Pavilion, featuring Enterprise! Family members also receive a special discount: 50% off General Admission. (Proper ID required)
Offer good for full-priced adult, youth, child or senior General Admission tickets with the Space Shuttle Pavilion. Family members must be accompanied by the firefighter, paramedic, EMT or personnel to receive the discount. Not valid toward group packages, memberships or all access pass. Offer valid October 11 and 12, 2014 only.

10:00am - 5:00pm Mobile Training Vehicle Demonstration

A training center on wheels, visitors to the Mobile Training Vehicle (MTV) will glimpse demonstrations of an array of firefighting techniques and tools, such as use of the Personal Safety System (PSS), a Forcible Entry simulator and a maze-like course that firefighters must navigate while following emergency procedure. Demonstrations will take place throughout the day.

11:00am Ceremony – Blessing of the FDNY Marine Fleet

Join the Intrepid Museum for a formal ceremony, which includes a laying of the wreath, the blessing of the fleet, a FDNY bagpipers performance, a spectacular water display by the FDNY, and the procession of fireboats up the Hudson River.

12:00pm G String Band Performance

Comprised of FDNY members, including Lt. Ralph Bernard, the band plays popular rock & roll tunes.

12:00pm - 2:00pm FDNY 2015 Calendar of Heroes Autograph Signings

Stop by for your chance to meet firefighters of the FDNY 2015 Calendar of Heroes, who will be on hand to sign their pages of the calendar. Only copies of the Calendar of Heroes will be signed. Calendars will be available for purchase at the event.

12:30pm Stokes Basket and Rope Slide Demonstration from Intrepid's Flight Deck

Firefighters secure a victim to a specialized piece of equipment, the “Stokes Basket,” which keeps the victim immobile while being lowered, via ropes, to the Intrepid Museum's pier. A Rescue Company uses ropes to slide down Intrepid from the flight deck.

The award-winning FDNY Emerald Society Pipes & Drums will perform.

2:00pm Bucket Ladder Rescue Demonstration from Intrepid's Flight Deck

Firefighters from a Ladder Company rescue a victim from the flight deck by quickly raising the bucket ladder and plucking them from certain doom. The victim is placed inside the bucket for a safe return to ground.

2:30pm Firefighter's Personal Safety System (PSS) Demonstration

The Personal Safety System is worn by firefighters and provides a rapid means of escape from a burning building, via the window. PSS consists of a rope, a hook, a carabiner, and a descender. The system allows safe and controlled exit to a lower level.

3:30pm “Jaws of Life” Vehicle Extraction Demonstration and EMS Patient Treatment

Firefighters use the Hurst Tool, or the “Jaws of Life,” a powerful hydraulic tool that can cut through a car's steel doors and roof, allowing rescuers to free a trapped victim. EMS personnel provide assessment and treatment of the freed victim, and once stabilized, the victim is placed on a stretcher and removed for transport.

3:00pm Forcible Entry Door Demonstration

Firefighters put on their bunker gear and demonstrate the forcible entry simulator, a training tool that allows them to learn how to open both inward- and outward-opening locked doorways. This skill saves valuable seconds in entering fire and emergency scenes.

3:30pm HazMat Unit Contains Spill Demonstration (Weather Permitting)

Members of the elite Hazardous Materials in the Special Operations Command put on special suits and breathing masks to investigate and contain a simulated toxic spill.
