Operation Slumber
top_anchorWhat exactly is Operation Slumber?
Our Operation Slumber Overnight program is an incredible opportunity for organized youth groups and families to discover what it takes to eat, live and sleep aboard the Intrepid. Intrepid is better than ever and all yours from sunset until sunrise the following day.

top_anchorWill I get access to the Space Shuttle Pavilion?

Yes!  Each participant will have time to view the Space Shuttle Pavilion when the program first begins.  The Space Shuttle Pavilion will be open from 6:15pm to 7:20pm for self-guided tours. 

top_anchorI have a date in mind; how do I know if it is available?

Dates are determined by the Intrepid quarterly. If you have a group of 75 or more, please let us know as we may be able to accommodate your group on a specific date. Check the Operation Slumber section of our web site for future dates or contact our Group Sales Department 646-381-5010 or via email at groupsales@intrepidmuseum.org for currently available dates.

top_anchorAre there different activities for different age/scout level groups?
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum as well as the activities included in Operation Slumber are good for children of all ages
top_anchorWhat is the minimum group size? Maximum?

The maximum per event is 350 so we are able to accommodate most group sizes. Discounted rates applies to Scouts, Camps, JROTCs, Civil Air Patrols, and groups of 15 or more.

top_anchorWhat are the age limitations?

All youth must be at least 6 years old and no older than 17 years old. Programming is ideal for children between 6 and 14 years old.

top_anchorHow many adults do I need to bring with my youth group?

We require at least one (1) adult for every five (5) youth ages 8 and up. Adults must be 21 years of age or older. For youth under 8 years of age, we require a ratio of one (1) adult for every (1) youth. Youth participants must be between the ages of 6-17.  Children under 6 are not allowed.

top_anchorCan I drop my children off at night and pick them up in the morning?

No. We require adult supervision on all bookings. One adult can bring up to five children.  If more than five children are attending, a second adult will need to attend.

top_anchorWhat is the cost? Is it the same price for scouts and chaperones?

The cost of Operation Slumber is $130 for all individual participants. For Scouts, Camps, JROTCs, Civil Air Patrols and groups of 15 or more the cost is $99 per person. Museum members receive the discounted rate of $99 as well.

top_anchorDo we sleep in soldier’s berthing? Are there separate sleeping areas for my group?

Participants sleep amongst the planes and exhibits in our Hangar Deck on cots provided by the Museum. Please bring your own sleeping bags and/or blankets.

top_anchorAre there showers available?

There are no showers available. Bathrooms with toilets and sinks are available throughout the ship.

top_anchorHow does the museum admission voucher work?

Vouchers are only to be used once and are valid for up to 60 days after your overnight. For participants to be admitted into the Museum they must surrender their voucher in order to receive their admission ticket at the Group Sales desk located on the second floor in the Welcome Center. Vouchers cannot be resold or combined with any other offers and are only redeemable on-site at the Intrepid Museum Welcome Center and not available for web site, group or special event reservations.

top_anchorCan I use the voucher for next day admission?

Certainly!  Please note that Operation Slumber ends at 8:00am the next day and you must vacate the Museum at that time. The Museum reopens at 10:00am at which point your group can re-enter.  Please be advised you will need to go through security screening again if you leave the secure area of our complex.

top_anchorCan I have my birthday party during Operation Slumber?

Yes! we do allow Birthday Parties during Operation Slumber. If you are interested, please contact Group Sales at 646-381-5010 or via email at groupsales@intrepidmuseum.org for more information.

top_anchorI’m part of an adult/senior/mixed/family group; can we sleep on Intrepid?

Yes! Individuals can participate in Operation Slumber.  Please note that Operation Slumber is a youth program and adult supervision is required for youth participants.

top_anchorWhere is there overnight parking?

Our official parking partner for Operation Slumber is Circle Line right next door on Pier 83, W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036. Please ask the Intrepid Museum about discounts to Circle Line's parking lot for Operation Slumber while booking. The Intrepid Museum does not offer parking itself.

Attendees: All forms included on the Pre-Visit Kit must be completed and returned (2) weeks prior to the date of visit. Please do not hesitate to contact the Group Sales Department for any further questions.

 
Birthday Parties
top_anchorOn what days can I host a party?
We host parties 7days a week (based on availability and Museum events/hours).
top_anchorWhat time slots do you offer for Birthday Parties?
We offer two convenient birthday party time slots, 10:30am–12:30pm and 1:00pm–3:00pm.
On weekends we also offer a 3:30pm–5:30pm time slot.
top_anchorHow far in advance do I need to book my child's party?

We recommend booking your party two (2) - three (3) months in advance. A 25% deposit is required to hold your date, and we require payment in full two (2) weeks prior to your event. Due to popularity, dates may be sold out several months in advance.

top_anchorWhen is final payment due? What types of payment do you accept?
Final Payment is due two (2) weeks before party. Confirmations details such as number of guests, food and cake selection are also required at this time. We accept Visa, MC, AMEX and checks for final payment. We do not accept Discover Card or cash.
top_anchorIs the Intrepid Museum wheelchair and stroller accessible?
The Intrepid is complaint with the Americans with Disabilities Act. There are elevators which can bring guests from the Pier to the Hangar Deck and Flight Deck and also elevators within the Ship. The Concorde and Growler Submarine are not ADA complaint.
top_anchorWhat are the responsibilities of the party host?
The party host is responsible for organizing the structure of the party including activities, tours, food and overall adherence to the schedule of events. Gratuities are not included but welcomed.
top_anchorWhat food options are there for adults and children?
Our current menu offers the following:
Children: pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs or macaroni and cheese. All options include apples, juice box and potato sticks;
Adult: Sandwich platter, fruit platter, vegetable platter, pizza, cheese & fruit platter and cold cut platter;
Intrepid Birthday Cake.
top_anchorIs the food mentioned for all 30? What if the parents are not going to eat?
Food is provided for all guests as part of the package. We cannot discount the price for guests who are not planning on eating.
top_anchorIs outside food permitted?
Outside food is not permitted. Please let us know if you have special circumstances such as food allergies.
top_anchorWhat if I want to bring my own cake?
Please let your representative know if you would like to bring your own cake. However, we cannot discount the cost of the cake from the package price.
top_anchorAre there Kosher options for the Birthday Parties?
Kosher Food is available at an additional cost.
top_anchorAre there other guests in the museum during the party?
Yes, the Museum will be open to other guests during the party; however, Museum Staff is aware of your event and will make every effort to help bypass any lines and navigate your experience through the Museum. The party host will also be with you at all times.
top_anchorWhat is the duration of the party?
Each Birthday Party lasts two (2) hours including food and cake portion.
top_anchorHow long can my guests stay in the museum?
Guests are welcome to stay in the Museum until closing. If you have rented a private room, you will only have access to it during the hours of the party. We do not have lockers or storage areas.
top_anchorWhat kind of decorations are there for the party?
Table decor is based on the theme of your party (i.e. Pilot Parties have Airplane related accessories). Balloons are included in the Gold and Platinum packages or can be added on to the Silver party at an additional cost. All paper goods for adults and children are included.
top_anchorWhere do I go the day of my party?
Please arrive fifteen (15) minutes prior to the start of your party. The party hosts will meet you and your guests in the welcome center. Please ask your guests to arrive no later than fifteen (15) minutes after the start of the party so the fun can begin! If guests do arrive late, Museum Staff will direct them towards the current location of the party.

Gift Bags are included in the Gold Package and a premium gift bag is included in the Platinum Package. Favors are also available for an additional cost.
top_anchorWhat ages are the parties suitable for? Can I host a Birthday Party for an adult?
Birthday parties are generally towards children between the ages of 6 - 12 years old, but our Birthday Party staff will be happy to tailor a party to children of all ages. Parties are, however, not available for adults. If you are interested in hosting a party for an Adult, Senior, Bar/Bah mitzvah, Sweet 16, etc., please contact our Special Events department at 646-381-5300, via email at eventinfo@intrepidmuseum.org or by completing the "Contact Us" form
top_anchorDo we get a room for our belongings and for how long?
Private rooms are available at an additional charge. You will have access to the room for the duration of your party.
top_anchorWhat is the interactive tour? Does it include the Concorde & Growler submarine?
The Interactive tour consists of a visit to the Flight Deck & Hangar Deck which includes the Exploreum. The theme you select will dictate which exhibits the party hosts will spend more time on as they explain historical and fun facts. If you would like to see the Concorde or the Growler, or have any other requests, please speak with your Event Specialist.
top_anchorWhat kind of costume does the host wear?
Your party host will wear a theme-appropriate costume such as a pirate, an astronaut, etc. Costumes are realistic, not mascot-like, so your little ones shouldn't be frightened.
top_anchorI see the party is good for up to 30 people; does it have to be 15 adults and 15 children?
No, that is just our suggestion as we have found most children are accompanied by a parent. You can have any combination of adults and children as long as there is at least one (1) adult for every five (5) children.
top_anchorI have more than thirty (30) guests. What are the additional charges associated with my additional guest?
Additional guests, whether adults or children, will be charged a per person rate based on the package level you are choosing.
 
General Questions
top_anchorHow many people do you consider a group?
A group of fifteen (15) or more is considered a group and is eligible for our group discounts and services. If you are looking to purchase tickets for less than 15 people, please visit our online ticket center by clicking here.
top_anchorWhat does general admission include? Are the Growler and Concorde included?

General admission to the Intrepid Museum includes the Intrepid Aircraft carrier, Space Shuttle Enterprise, all 26 Aircraft and the Growler. The British Airways Concorde is open for private guided tours and is available daily; however, the visitors can view the outside of the aircraft at any time. Click here for more information.

Growler is subject to close one hour prior to the Museum closing.

top_anchorDoes the Intrepid have parking? Bus parking?
The Intrepid Museum does not offer public parking. To arrange bus parking, please reach out to groupsales@intrepidmuseum.org. The Museum is not affiliated with any parking lots; however, several in the area can accommodate cars, trucks, and vans. We suggest reaching out to them prior to your visit to ensure availability.
top_anchorIs the Intrepid Wheelchair accessible?
The Intrepid is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. There are elevators which can bring guests from the Pier to the Hangar Deck and Flight Deck and also elevators within the Ship. The Fo’c’s’le, the Gallery Deck exhibits, Island/Bridge, The Concorde, Growler Submarine and simulator rides are not ADA compliant.
top_anchorCan I pay the final balance on the day of my visit?

No. Group reservations must be paid in full two (2) weeks prior to your visit. Bookings within two weeks are acceptable, with payment due upon booking.

top_anchorWhat if my reservation head count changes?
You can update your head count up to two (2) weeks prior to the date of your visit.
top_anchorCan I get a refund if not everyone in my group shows up?
Unfortunately, changes to any existing reservation must be made at least two (2) weeks prior to visit so day of changes to the reservation are not permitted. You can find this information in the Confirmation Letter you received when you booked your visit. The Box Office is not permitted to refund any sales made through the Group Sales department.
top_anchorWhat happens if my group is larger than I expected on the date of my visit?
Additional guests that were not included on reservation prior to two (2) weeks before visit will pay full museum admission.
top_anchorHow much time should I plan on spending at the Museum?
We suggest allowing between two (2) and two and a half (2.5) hours to explore the Museum. Of course, we welcome you to stay as long as you'd like!
top_anchorI am a Camp Counselor. Do I have to pay?
Yes, but Camp Counselors booking a group of campers are eligible for the discounted adult rate.

top_anchorWhat are other NYC attractions close by?
The Intrepid is located a few blocks west of Times Square and in the vicinity of some exiting sightseeing opportunities and attractions. Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises is located just south of the Intrepid on the West Side - please ask about our combination packages. Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is another prefered attraction conveniently located on 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues and within walking distance or easily accessible from the M42 NYC Transit bus.
top_anchorAre there any eating facilities on the Ship? Do you offer lunch packages? Can I bring my own lunch aboard?
There are two eating facilities on the complex - one located on the Mess Desk level of the Intrepid (which is where the crew would dine) and one located on the second level of our Welcome Center. For your convenience, we offer prearranged boxed lunches which include a sandwich, beverage and snacks - please ask your Group Sales Representative for options and pricing. If your group purchases a lunch package, we can reserve seating in our Mess Desk.

You are welcome to bring a "brown bag" style lunch on board; seating is on a first come, first served basis. You are not permitted to bring picnic baskets, catered foods (including platters) or alcohol beverages on board. Food must be eaten within the Mess Desk area or outside on our new park-like pier.
top_anchorWhat's the difference between Veterans, Retired Military & Active Military?
A Veteran is one who has served in the Military. Retired Military is one who has served his/her entire career in the Military. Active Military is one who is currently active. Retired & Active Military received complimentary admission for themselves; Veterans receive a discount on tickets. All will be asked for appropriate identification upon checking in.
top_anchorI am participating in a private tour; what am I going to see?
Your tour guide will take your group of up to 20 people on an in-depth look at some of the fascinating areas and new exhibits that make up the Intrepid Museum. Your informative Guide will also be happy to answer any and all questions.

 
Private tours do not include the British Airways Concorde or Growler submarine. While Guided Concorde Tours are available for purchase, we invite you to explore the Growler on your own. VIP Tours can include a private tour of the Concorde or Submarine. Please inquire within.
