Intrepid 101
 

Tour Description: Learn about the history of Intrepid from 1943 to 1974 and beyond. Explore the ship's historic forecastle, the hangar deck, where aircraft were maintained and stored, and the flight deck (weather permitting), where thousands of aircraft were launched.

Tour length: 60 minutes

Suggested audience: Visitors ages 10 and up

Tour price: $300

This tour requires long periods of walking and standing. The Intrepid Museum offers seating on the hangar and flight decks. Lightweight, portable stools are available upon request. This tour is wheelchair accessible.

Planes Explained
 

Tour Description: Lockheed Blackbird. F-14 Tomcat. Grumman Avenger. MiG-21. F-16 Viper. Get an up-close look at these and other legendary aircraft on this tour. Learn the basics of flight, how different designs affect aircraft performance, how helicopters work, how to land on an aircraft carrier and what the future of aviation holds.

Tour length: 60 minutes

With Bravery and Distinction
 

Tour Description: Learn about the accomplishments of African Americans who were pioneers in the areas of sea, air and space. Leading you back in time, this tour will highlight many inspirational stories of men and women who heroically broke through barriers, paving the way for future generations. Stories include those of Intrepid's Gun Tub 10, the brave steward’s mates who fought to save Intrepid from a kamikaze attack; Jesse Brown, the U.S. Navy's first African American combat pilot, who lost his life during the Korean War; U.S. Navy officer Dick Turpin, an African American diver credited with inventing the underwater cutting torch used at Pearl Harbor; Robert Lawrence, the first African American astronaut, who was part of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program in 1967; and many more.

Intrepid Women
 

Tour Description: Hear the stories of trailblazing women and learn about their accomplishments in sea, air and space over the past 70 years. From "Rosie the Riveter" to the first women in space, this tour will share insight into the female spirit, summed up by the iconic phrase "We can do it!"

Tour length: 90 minutes

Pacific War
 

Tour Description: Hear the story of Intrepid and its crew in World War II. From 1943 to 1945, Intrepid participated in the greatest naval campaign in world history. Armed with state-of-the-art planes and a crew of over 3,000 sailors, the “Fighting I” won hard-fought victories against Imperial Japan in the Pacific War. From the raid at Truk Atoll to the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the invasion of Okinawa, the accomplishments of the ship and its men transformed the names of little-known Pacific islands into symbols of American courage and sacrifice.

Tour length: Approximately 100 minutes

Suggested audience: Visitors ages 10 and up

Tour price: $450

This tour requires navigating stairs and ladders and includes long periods of walking and standing.

Enterprise
 

Tour Description: For 30 years, NASA’s revolutionary space shuttles were launched as rockets, orbited Earth as versatile spacecraft and glided to landings as airplanes. On this tour of the Intrepid Museum's Space Shuttle Pavilion, get up close and in depth with Enterprise, the first space shuttle and one of only four in existence. Explore the triumphs and tragedies of the space shuttle program, examine a space-flown Russian Soyuz capsule, and learn about present and future ventures in space travel.

Concorde
 

Take off on a unique exploration of the Concorde G-BOAD, the fastest commercial aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Learn about the aerodynamic advances responsible for this technological marvel, designed in the 1960s and operational until 2003.
This tour offers guests the rare opportunity to enjoy the comfort of the Concorde’s first-class cabin and get an up-close look inside its sophisticated flight deck. Certain tour times grant early admission into the Intrepid Museum complex.

Tour length: 45 minutes

Suggested audience: Visitors ages 10 and up

Tour price: $450

This tour requires navigating stairs. The majority of the tour is seated, though portions of the tour require walking and standing.
