Intrepid Joins New York Museums Salute Memorial Day: A Weekend of Appreciation
Posted: 5/17/2010 6:01:50 PM

Intrepid joins Senator Gillibrand & 53 other NYC cultural institutions to announce free admission for active duty service members & veterans this Memorial Day Weekend.

Intrepid is proud to participate in New York Museums Salute Memorial Day: A Weekend of Appreciation, a new program which was unveiled today at The Whitney Museum of Art by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Paul Rieckhoff of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), and The Whitney’s Adam D. Weinberg.   Soldiers and veterans, including Mike Hallihan and other members of Intrepid’s Former Crew Members Association were also on hand to help kick of this program.

A total of 54 museums, historic sites and cultural institutions from all five boroughs of New York City will offer free admission to all active duty service members and veterans during the Memorial Day Weekend to help honor the brave men and women who have risked their lives for America.   New York City alone has approximately 240,000 veterans who will be eligible to participate in this first ever free cultural weekend.

The Intrepid, which is also celebrating Fleet Week during the Memorial Day Weekend, will have extended operating hours, special pier displays and performances.  Photo ID and proof of military association is required for free admission.  Acceptable forms of ID include discharge papers, active military ID card, reservist military ID card, retiree military ID card, and Veterans Identification Card (VIC).   For a full list of participating museums and other ID forms accepted, please visit:
