This year, the Intrepid Museum’s volunteers donated more than 15,000 hours as exhibit explainers, greeters, oral history transcribers, aircraft restorers and assistants for special events and programs. Our 130 volunteers range in age from 20 to 90 years old, and 61 of them are veterans, representing all branches of the military except the U.S. Coast Guard. We are grateful for their service to the Museum’s mission to honor, educate and inspire.

The best way to show the value of our volunteers is through the words of our visitors. One family shared this story of a recent experience with volunteer Jim Eng:
We have been visiting the Intrepid Museum for several years and always make a point to stop by Jim. He is very forthcoming with any and all information he has about the A-12, Tomcat and other aircraft.
Our visit last month was special. Our second grader, Arwan, decided to present the history of military aircraft at our town’s history fair. When we told Jim about Arwan's project, he was very excited and went to great lengths to explain facts about the aircraft. Arwan’s project was well received at the history fair, as it was very informative.
We really appreciate the time and effort put in by Jim and other volunteers in sharing firsthand knowledge with young enthusiasts. It fuels further interest in the field in young minds, so they want to know more. Arwan now wants to help Jim in volunteering.
