Posted: 8/12/2013 9:38:19 AM

Ever wonder what it was like to serve on an aircraft carrier? This weekend, meet the brave men who served on board Intrepid and hear the stories of their time on the ship. In celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Intrepid’s Commissioning, the Intrepid Museum is hosting a Former Crew Member Homecoming Weekend August 16 to 18, and men who served on the ship will be available to talk with Museum visitors.

More than 300 Former Crew Members who served during World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War will visit the Intrepid Museum this weekend, and several will available in Hangar 2 for meet and greet sessions with guests on Friday and Saturday. Hear about the different jobs, ports of call visited, and experiences they had on Intrepid.

Education Demonstrations and Tour Guide Talks will take place throughout the weekend, and three Extended Tour Guide Talks will take place in the Lutnick Theater, highlighting World War II (Friday at 3:30pm), the Vietnam War (Saturday at 11:00am), and the Cold War (Sunday at 1:00pm).

A new exhibition, Working Below Decks, will debut on Thursday, August 15, highlighting several of the tasks and jobs on Intrepid that took place below decks. On Saturday and Sunday, Curators from the Intrepid Museum will give special presentations about Intrepid's Sick Bay and Medical Department (Saturday at 11:30), the Laundry (Saturday at 3:30pm), its Print Shop (Sunday at 11:30am), and Cobbler Shop (Sunday at 3:30pm).
