Honor Educate Inspire

Over the past six weeks, the Intrepid Museum has shared stories that highlight our mission to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth as part of our Honor.Educate.Inspire campaign.

As a non-profit organization, the Intrepid Museum relies on donors for critical support. Contributions to the campaign support our education programs, which reach 30,000 students each year—like Chelsea Alonzo, a brilliant 15-year-old student from the Bronx who we featured in our most recent video. Chelsea participated in the Museum’s Greater Opportunities Advancing Leadership and Science for Girls (GOALS for Girls) program. Over the course of six weeks, Chelsea participated in hands-on activities and fieldtrips focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Here’s a little of what she had to say:

“I remember every day after coming back from Camp GOALS, I would sit around at dinner and share my stories with my sisters. And they’d say ‘I want to do that! I want to learn about that!’ Because I learned something new every day!”

Gifts to the campaign also support us as we endeavor to honor our heroes. Through the Museum’s Oral History Project, which we featured in our first video, we record the stories of the men who served, like Thomas Dugan, who recalled a kamikaze attack on Intrepid:

“When the bomb exploded, the shrapnel came through into our compartment....I didn’t know there was any damage in there....I open my locker....to get out my whites—I had them rolled up—and I discovered a hole. A piece of the Japanese plane had gone through my locker.”

And contributions help us conserve the Museum’s collection, which allows us to teach the history and science behind remarkable artifacts—ranging in size from tiny uniform buttons to the soaring space orbiter Enterprise. In our second video, hear from pilot Leslie Scott as he talks about the science behind Concorde and the impact it has on our visitors.

Please consider making a fully tax-deductible gift to the Intrepid Museum today. Gifts can be made online or by calling 646-318-5201. Checks can be mailed to:
