Tune in to Travel Channel’s Mysteries of the Museum at 8pm est on Tuesday, January 11! The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and Curator of History, Jessica Williams, will be prominently featured as the show takes a look at the Museum’s Kamikaze Artifacts. At first glance, they look like mere mechanical debris; but these are actually the twisted remains of one of the most dreaded weapons of World War II.
During World War II, Intrepid survived five kamikaze attacks, which took the lives of nearly 100 crew members and caused significant damage to the ship. Crew members saved pieces from the crash-diving Japanese airplanes as mementos of the ship’s time in combat. Today, these fragments of steel and rubber are on display at the Museum as reminders of Intrepid’s valiant service during World War II. |
