How is an aircraft carrier based plane different than one that lands on solid ground?
Used by the US Navy from 1954 through 1964, the FJ3 Fury is a prime example of a carrier based aircraft. A robust nose gear sits the plane higher off of the ground and is essential to make a flight deck landing. And the Fury’s folding wings allow for easier storage of the plane on a vessel where space is a precious commodity.
