Tour Guide Talks, Intrepid Museum’s bite sized video tour series, continues with Tour Guide Mike Murtagh who eloquently tells the story of Intrepid’s service during the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War was one that USS Intrepid was never built to fight. Originally constructed in 1943, by the time she sailed to Vietnam in 1966 she was twenty-two years old and half the size of modern aircraft carriers. Despite these challenges, Intrepid was successful in bringing down enemy aircraft and spent more time in service during the Vietnam War than World War II.
