NASA Day of Remembrance
Posted: 1/25/2018 4:11:26 PM

NASA’s annual Day of Remembrance honors the anniversaries of three tragedies: the fire in the Apollo 1 module on January 27, 1967; the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986; and the loss of the space shuttle Columbia on February 1, 2003. These disasters claimed the lives of 17 astronauts.

As part of its mission to honor our heroes, the Intrepid Museum dedicated the space shuttle Enterprise to these fallen crews—brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to deepen our knowledge of the universe, for the benefit of all humankind. It is our hope that the spirit of these explorers will live on here at the Museum, in the proud display of this artifact, in the programs and exhibitions that it motivates, and in the young minds it inspires.
