This weekend, July 20 and 21, honor our bravest with Firefighter Appreciation Weekend at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
On Pier 86, FDNY will be on hand to provide demonstrations, displays, interactive activities, and much more. Watch as firefighters do a Bucket Ladder Rescue Demonstration from Intrepid's Flight Deck or demonstrate how they use their Personal Safety Systems. Emergency personnel will also do vehicle extraction demonstrations with the “Jaws of Life” and Hotdog, the FDNY Fire Safety Mascot, will also be on hand. All activities taking place on Pier 86 are free to the public, while access inside the Museum and the Space Shuttle Pavilion requires purchasing Museum admission.
On Saturday morning, join us for a formal ceremony blessing the FDNY Marine Fleet, which includes a laying of the wreath, a bagpipers performance, a spectacular water display, and the procession of fireboats up the Hudson River. Later that day, FDNY teams will participate in the 5th annual Battle of the Boroughs cook-off competition, sponsored by Potbelly, and on Sunday, the 3rd annual Battle of the Bands will take place. The G String Band, made up of members of the FDNY, and the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes & Drums will also perform throughout the weekend.
All firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and personnel will receive free admission to the Intrepid Museum July 20 and 21, including access to the newly reopened Space Shuttle Pavilion, featuring Enterprise! Family members also receive a special discount: 50% off general admission (proper ID required).
