The Intrepid Museum is saddened to learn that Frederick I. Ordway III, space pioneer and scientist, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Huntsville, Alabama at the age of 87. Frederick, a friend of the Intrepid Museum, was noted for his work with Dr. Wernher von Braun on the Apollo space program at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville.
Frederick was also a technical adviser on the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and worked with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center on an exhibit based on the film. The exhibit is scheduled to open in 2015. Frederick also authored more than 300 scientific articles and 30 books.
