Astronauts and space fans packed the Intrepid Museum for its third annual Space & Science Festival, which ran July 16-20. On Friday, legendary Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin stopped by for a special talk with current NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Mr. Aldrin shared his memories of that day, including walking visitors step-by-step through the landing process while footage from NASA played in the background. He also shared stories of what it was like as they landed in the ocean and re-acclimated to life on Earth. After that presentation, the day was capped off with a special screening of “The Space Race” episode of CNN’s The Sixties.

Intrepid Museum tour guides and educators also presented space-themed Tour Guide Talks and Education Demonstrations throughout the week.

Astronauts not only gave presentations for the public, but they also spoke to educators on site for a Teacher Professional Development day, and to Camp Intrepid campers and participants in the Museum’s Camp GOALS (Greater Opportunities Advancing Leadership and Science) for Girls program.
