Join us at the Intrepid Museum for the fourth annual Space & Science Festival! Hear an astronaut's stories about flying into space, experience the movement of satellites in real time, and glimpse into the future of space exploration, all during this four-day celebration of science, art and innovation! Come by for these exciting events and activities:
- Free Summer Movie Series: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Free Family Astronomy Night
- Meet the Pilot: Former NASA astronaut Pamela Melroy
- Space Panorama, a performance by Andrew Dawson
- A presentation by Alan Stern, principal investigator for the New Horizons mission to Pluto
Throughout the festival, enjoy displays and activities by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Final Frontier Design, FIRST Robotics and our other partners, as well as special Tour Guide Talks and demos from the Museum’s stellar team of educators! And don’t forget to download our free iPhone app, Mission Intrepid: Explore Enterprise, and to check out the exhibition HUBBLE@25 in the Space Shuttle Pavilion!
The NASA Orbit Pavilion will also be on display on Pier 86 during the Space & Science Festival. NASA uses a fleet of satellites to observe Earth—its weather patterns, atmosphere, sea levels and ocean currents, winds and storm warnings and freshwater resources. Scientists and artists at NASA, inspired by the ocean-like sounds heard in a seashell, designed and built the Orbit Pavilion to draw attention to NASA’s Earth-observing missions. Step inside the Orbit Pavilion, imagine a silver seashell fallen from space, and listen to the satellites!
