Tickets are now on sale for the Kronos Quartet’s performance of Black Angels at the Intrepid Museum on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 7:30pm.
The Grammy Award–winning Kronos Quartet will visit the Intrepid Museum for the first time to perform George Crumb’s Black Angels in the uniquely relevant setting of Intrepid, which served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War. The work, subtitled “Thirteen Images from the Dark Land,” was written in response to the Vietnam War and, in Crumb’s own words, is “a kind of parable on our troubled contemporary world.” After hearing Black Angels for the first time in 1973, David Harrington was inspired to form the Kronos Quartet, now one of the most celebrated and influential groups of our time, known for its fearless commitment and groundbreaking artistic vision.
Following the performance, John Schaefer, host of NPR’s Soundcheck, will lead a discussion with the members of the Kronos Quartet and Dr. Steven Bruns, an associate professor of music and expert on George Crumb. The panel will explore music’s ability to reflect on issues past and present with insight and sensitivity.
