The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum brought the Museum experience to young adults in Staten Island through the Intrepid Community Connections interactive education program recently at New York Public Library South Beach in Staten Island. The program took place on the main floor of the library, which recently re-opened following the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Intrepid Museum educator Patrick Gormley led students in interactive demonstrations using dry ice to recreate a comet. With the excitement following the discovery of Comet Ison, a frozen body that will be passing by Earth in late 2013 and is predicted to be the brightest comet to pass in several centuries, participants explored what a comet really is, as well as how the impacts of comets and asteroids on Earth brought water needed to support life.
