On Veterans Day, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host special events honoring the men and women who have served our country. Please join us at the Museum on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, to reflect on the service and sacrifices of our veterans.
The Museum’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Pier 86 at 3:30pm. The ceremony will pay tribute to service members past and present, including former crew members of Intrepid, with special remarks and the laying of wreaths on the Hudson River. Speakers include Loree Sutton, former brigadier general in the U.S. Army; Rear Adm. Cynthia Thebaud, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Two; Kathleen Hochul, lieutenant governor of New York; and Intrepid Museum President Susan Marenoff-Zausner. All are welcome to attend this moving ceremony, which is free and open to the public.
Special Tour Guide Talks highlighting heroic service will be offered on Veterans Day, including Stories from Pearl Harbor, What’s in a Name? Six Ships Named Intrepid and One Day in Vietnam: October 9, 1966. These talks are free with admission. Ask at the Information Desk for exact times.
The Intrepid Museum will also dedicate new Seats of Honor to five remarkable men who served our country. Service members and their families will share stories and memories, and plaques inscribed in their honor will be unveiled during a private ceremony in the Allison & Howard Lutnick Theater.
Honoring our veterans is a central part of the Museum’s mission. Every day, the Museum offers the opportunity to learn about those who served. Its new exhibitions On the Line: Intrepid and the Vietnam War and City at Sea: USS Intrepid draw from stories shared by former service members who were interviewed for the Museum’s Oral History Project. These exhibitions give visitors the chance to hear history firsthand from those who lived it, and to better understand the experience of service.
The Museum also offers free admission to all U.S. veterans, active military and retired military, thanks to the generous support of Bank of America. Tickets are available with proper ID at the Museum Box Office.
