Today marks the 13th anniversary of 9/11, a tragic day in our nation's history. The Intrepid Museum remembers and honors all those who were affected by this tragic event.
Intrepid was humbled to be a part of the aftermath efforts.
While it was 27 years after Intrepid had retired from active duty—after serving heroically during World War II, the Cold War and the Vietnam War—the ship was once again summoned to help its country in its greatest time of need.
On September 11, 2001, Intrepid, given its unique combination of a secure site with land, sea, and air access and a quick route to Ground Zero, transformed from a museum into an emergency operations center for over 500 FBI agents and law enforcement officials who fielded half a million phone calls and compiled vital intelligence in the tragedy of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
All Intrepid flags will fly at half-mast today. |
